Scope: CMC Markets UK plc, research accessed 17 October 2026. This profile documents what the firm’s own UK pages say; it is not an independent live-account audit, a current FCA-register certification, or a broker recommendation.
Check the precise UK legal entity
The company’s important-information page names CMC Markets UK plc, incorporated in England and Wales, and declares FCA registration number 173730. That statement should be cross-checked against the live FCA Firm Checker, including permissions, warnings and the entity on the customer agreement. Other similarly branded products or regional affiliates may have different structures.
CMC’s legal materials also explain that prices displayed on its Next Generation interface may be its own market-maker quotes and can differ from reference-exchange prices. This is a useful distinction: a chart is not proof of a universal executable market price.
Comparing spreads across products
The UK trading-cost page distinguishes spread betting, CFDs, investments and additional charges. Forex-related spread betting or CFD pricing can incorporate the dealing spread, and overnight charges can apply where the relevant holding terms say so. Costs for other asset classes, data and currency conversion may differ. We deliberately do not take a spread shown in a promotional table and label it the client’s expected average.
For an invented EUR/USD example, assume a quote of 1.10490 bid and 1.10504 ask. The spread is 0.00014, or 1.4 pips. A 100,000-EUR exposure has an indicative initial spread cost near USD 14 before funding or execution slippage. This is arithmetic and not a current CMC quote. The same trade can look different at a different session, size or account setting.
Next Generation versus MT4
CMC provides a platform comparison of Next Generation and MetaTrader 4. That is more useful than a generic checklist marking both boxes “yes”: indicators, order types, charting preferences and integration tools may vary. Some automated workflows require MetaTrader-specific capabilities while other analysis tools are proprietary to Next Generation.
The right test is concrete: can the selected account submit the intended order types, save templates, export historical trades, apply a risk limit and display true all-in costs? We have not tested CMC’s software firsthand and therefore will not score its execution quality or ease of use.
Operational checks before funding
Ask the firm for the current binding fees, margin schedule, margin liquidation triggers, cash withdrawal terms and any inactivity charges. Confirm product eligibility for your residence and client classification. Review the published terms and conflict policies and keep copies dated to the actual account-opening decision. Marketing statements about account protection should not be generalized to every customer.
If you compare CMC with IG or Pepperstone, compare UK entities, the same leveraged product, and the same holding period. A share-investing fee table cannot answer the cost of a forex CFD trade.
Community experiences and unresolved evidence
Online reviews can raise useful questions about withdrawals, platforms and support. They cannot establish whether a specific firm committed misconduct or whether a complaint is typical. Keep the official FCA check and contract terms separate from any anonymous report. Our review-reading guide details how to investigate responsibly.
Common mistakes and limits
Do not equate an FCA number in a footer with an authenticated current register check, compare a minimum spread across mismatched products, or infer actual fills from a screenshot. We have not audited the current FCA record, executed an account-size-matched spread sample, or independently verified withdrawal experiences. Leveraged CFDs and spread bets can lead to significant losses; our scope is descriptive research, not personalized advice.
